I have been playing for 3 years now and have come to a point where I feel that I need to break things back down to the basics and really start to concentrate on my rudiments again. I know that I was always suppost to tbe playing them (I was told very early on that I should be spending 1/2 of my practice time on them.) but lets be honest, who actually does that? Well I am now. I never quit got to the point where I was doing all of my rolls with the backfingers, so I think its time to really start hitting them hard. I would really love to hear about how much practice time you spend specifically on rudiments. So I started a new poll......

Well thanks to the guys of The Jam Doctors (and specifically Steve Starkey for letting me use his kit) I was able to finally get out of my basement and jam with a band for a change. Every Thursday is open jam at the Thirsty Whale. It was a great experience but would probably been better if I had not gotten as drunk as I did. I played 'Sunshine of your love" by Cream and "Hard to Handle" by the Black Crowes. I enjoyed it so much that I am buying a intermediate level kit and finally get with a band. I can help but wonder how many people are like me and struggle to get their practice time in during the holidays. I normally practice 5-6 times per week. Lately, with the holidays, I have not done as well.
Also, since I don't actually play in a band, all of my playing time is practice time. So I am wondering of those of you that play in a band, how much practice time do you get in and what does your practice time consist of? Do you have material that you work on that is not related to the music your band plays, do you practice the music that your band plays or both?
