Single Stroke Roll Exercise

 I have to admit that I have a pretty slow single stroke roll. I didn’t really realize this until I started playing certain songs with a fairly fast tempo (for me) with full measures of 16th note rolls over multiple surfaces. I don’t do too bad with a single surface, but even that could use some improvement. I ran across this guys on youtube.com who calls himself the Ninja Drummist. Check out this video

 Man that seemed petty fast to me. I noticed that he seems to have been able to isolate the backfingers and relies on the rebound stoke to complete the motion. This seems to be exactly my problem. I am using too much wrist. Here is a follow up video with a better explanation of the motion;

 I have added this exercise to my daily routine. I am starting very slowly at 50 bpm for 10 min using the pattern he wrote out. Hopefully I can get much better speeds with my single stroke rolls with time.  Thanks to the ninja drummist http://www.ninjadrummist.com/
